DELTA DENTAL FOUNDATION OF ARIZONA – MOLAR Project
OPPORTUNITY CLOSED - The Organization is no longer accepting applications for this project
Oral disease and dental health promotion is an issue involving multiple social and cultural factors requiring many types of resources and partners to affect change. The central importance of oral health to the entire well being of a person is often lost in other pressing health issues but to those who are young, medically compromised, low-income, elderly, homebound and uninsured the issues can become paramount. There are many disparate efforts trying to address the local oral health needs but without coordination and collaboration in this strained economic climate little overall impact is evident and/or measurable. Maricopa County Oral health Leadership, Advocates and Resources (MOLAR) is a nascent group nonprofits, universities, schools, clinics, community health centers and public health providers brought together by three lead oral health organizations in the greater Phoenix region: Arizona Dental Association Foundation, Delta Dental of Arizona Foundation and Maricopa County Department of Public Health - Office of Oral Health (MCOOH). Building and organizing the capacity of the MOLAR coalition would provide a much needed organization within the greater Phoenix area. There are so many cities and regions within this county that could use support, networking, and collaboration gathering strength and ideas from others. The three lead organizations informally identified the need to begin a coalition and agreed to work together to host an initial meeting, determine if there was sufficient interest in a coalition and then begin the first stage of developing a structure and action plan. This effort is truly building capacity where there is not currently any formal organization. The physical site for this VISTA worker would be Delta Dental of Arizona Foundation housed within the corporate offices of Delta Dental of Arizona in Glendale, Arizona. However, the other two partner agencies will be active participants in moving this coalition forward and working with the VISTA worker.
