Nonprofit leaders are looking for tools and strategies to build bridges in the community: ranging from developing new partnerships to collaborating more effectively, from sharing resources to consolidating with other nonprofits. The Alliance is partnering with Arizona Grantmakers Forum, thanks to support from American Express and Lodestar Foundation, to present "Collaboration and Beyond" on October 25 in Phoenix.

The workshop will be presented by David La Piana, a nationally recognized expert in strategic restructuring (collaborations, alliances and mergers) with 25 years of experience working with nonprofits across the country. At the morning session you will:

  • Learn about the continuum of partnerships - including but not limited to mergers, joint ventures, administrative consolidations, and joint programming - through which nonprofits strive to anticipate or respond to environmental threats and opportunities.
  • Learn about key issues and steps in considering strategic restructuring, including organizational culture, financial analysis, and human resource issues.
  • Participate in hands on exercises with your organization's team to fast track your use of these best practices in your organization.

The workshop concludes with a luncheon, which will involve other participants in the community, including major funders. The luncheon will highlight Arizona case studies of collaboration and consolidation among nonprofits.

The workshop is available for up to 25 nonprofit teams. To be eligible to attend the workshop, you must register a team: at least two people must come from your organization and/or coalition -- someone from your staff and preferably someone from your Board or from another organization with which you have a partnership. Teams will be limited to 4 persons per team. Space is limited, pre-registration is required.

If you are not able to assemble a team for the workshop, you can register as an individual for the luncheon. Join your nonprofit colleagues to hear David La Piana, a nationally recognized expert in strategic restructuring (collaborations, alliances and mergers) with 25 years of experience working with nonprofits across the country. La Piana will speak about his work in strategic restructuring, joined by a panel of Arizona organizations who have gone down the path of collaboration. The luncheon discussion will highlight Arizona case studies of collaboration and consolidation among nonprofits.
